A cross-disciplinary installation by British artist Allan Dransfield, exploring the boundaries between life, memory, religion, science, and art.
The series emerged from a solo journey around the world (2013–15), shaped by an evolving understanding that all existence—from micro to macro—is intrinsically connected.

In a world of constant distraction, the journey became an opportunity to step away from expectation, language, and time itself. It marked a shift toward presence: learning to listen, and to trust an inner guiding voice as a compass.

XOU is a tangible expression of this process—an exploratory document of inner awakening.

At close range, the images draw the viewer into abstraction, where detail can overwhelm—much like life itself. Step back, and a sense of calm emerges: structure within chaos, harmony within complexity. Further still, the works form a suspended ring of images—diverse in colour, texture, and pattern, yet unified.

This circular form reflects a strand of DNA: a visual metaphor for life, memory, and experience. Each image becomes part of an infinite sequence—coexisting moments encoded as a living archive, echoing through space and time.

XOU also engages with the idea of a unifying, cosmic intelligence—an underlying force connecting all things. Through reflection and symmetry, the works evoke a visual language reminiscent of religious iconography, suggesting a persistent, intangible presence often associated with states of deep meditation or altered perception.

Finally, the series draws inspiration from fractal geometry—particularly the Mandelbrot set—highlighting the shared territory between science and art, where complexity reveals order, and structure suggests meaning.
